Jamie Gamboa

Jamie says she doesn't really have a particular technique, she just enjoys taking pictures of subjects she finds to be photogenic and interesting. She has a collection of film cameras but only some are in use like her Kodak Pony 135 (which took the 2nd photo in this set) that she inherited from her grandmother, a Diana F+, and the occasional disposable camera (which took the 3rd photo).

Jamie says that since purchasing her first DSLR (a Nikon D3100) as a present for graduating middle school, she has been prioritising taking digital photographs and portraits. She uses the magic of photoshop to edit them to have the nostalgic, sentimental vibe that film photos provide.
 There is also a very delicate quality to Jamie's photographs, which we love.

Karly Brecher

Karly shoots with a Canon AE-1 Program. She uses whatever film she can get her hands on, which is usually the cheapest. She took two years of black and white film photography classes at her high school and continued on her own afterwards. Karly says she doesn't consider herself a photographer at all, she just likes taking pictures! 

Karly started screwing around with film when her friend Maya dipped her film in water to mess with the colors. Most of the photos featured here were pre-soaked in bleach, salt and she reckons probably some other random stuff she found in her kitchen! 

A big fan of "happy accidents", Karly says she wasn't bothered when the photo lab messed up the framing of her shots. We think it adds perfectly to the images, especially with the brilliant pinks and reds.

Mallory Shriver

Mallory shot these photos using an old Minolta X-370 that she got from her mother.  She chose to capture the land near her house and destroy the photos to symbolize how we are destroying nature not just in her tiny rural town, but across the globe.

She then soaked it in a cup of bleach for one minute before taking it in for developing. Mallory says she loves destroying film for the meaning behind it and the sheer excitement of not knowing if or how the photographs will turn out.

We think she has achieved amazing results. We love the colours!

Cierra Sens

There's such a lovely quality to Cierra's photographs. Nothing too over the top, just a few extra touches that make the photo so special.

Idan Avnon

This very creative set is by Idan Avnon (Kapputer Hamster on Flickr)
His process include dipping the film in bleach, red wine, freezing and boiling the film. Interesting combinations!

Steph Dalton

These photos are by Steph Dalton, and they're all from manipulated disposable cameras. There are even more wonderful shots to see on her Flickr. We're waiting to hear back from Steph to know her exact techniques, but we'll be sure to update this post once we find out! For now though, Steph's photos are one of the reasons why this blog was set up, it's all about experimenting with disposable cameras and other forms of photography.

Helen Ritchey

Helen Ritchey (CLARITY; on Flickr) has a really stunning photostream. Definitely worth a closer look.

Helen's methods include soaking a film in vinegar for five minutes (pre-processing), boiling an expired film with baking soda and even modifying a camera with a homemade pinhole. Great techniques.

The final two photos are experiments with only winding the film on half way between exposures. They're from a homemade pinhole from a modified camera, 35mm Film, 200iso.

Amanda Stereo

Amanda Hudson, Stereo or Bust on Flickr, has had the genius idea of colouring over the lens of a disposable camera with pink and yellow highlighters to get this lovely tone to her photographs. This is definitely a technique we want to try, makes a nice change to the nail polish we usually use!

There's pretty much going to be five photos posting a day to try and clear some of the backlog of photos I have on my laptop (120 queued at the moment!) plus I took five films in to be developed yesterday, and still have at least three more ready to go, so I need to get some posted now. The majority of the ones on the films being developed atm are wintery/from christmas shops so I'll leave them to the week leading up until christmas :) Enjoy!
