Heather likes to experiment with disposable cameras (so we love her) and she's achieved some very interesting results...

For these last three, Heather soaked the camera in Sierra Mist (I had to look up what this was, it's pretty much just 7Up to us non-Americans!) for a few hours then put it in the freezer overnight. A lovely, mysterious outcome.

These photos are from an old disposable camera that expired in 2001 and was later exposed to the sun. Great effect :)

A Crappy Disposable Produced These

Actually uploading some of my own photos to here for a change :)

This set is from a crappy little disposable camera that I got from the 99p store. (You can see what they look like in the photo of my camera collection in this post) I love, love, love the grain in the cut trees photos. It's not very professional but I just really like film grain! And the end of roll burn in the first photo livens up what would be an otherwise dark and wasted photo of the forest. Disappointingly I only got about 8 photos back from this whole camera (of 24 exposures) so don't quite know what happened there :S

Anyone who reads my regular blog will know that my dad bought me a Praktica L2 for my birthday, and I got my first roll of film back today! (FYI, UK people, don't get your film developed at Jessops. They're so much more expensive than anywhere else and I only got half a film set back from one of my disposables :( ) Anyways, the Praktica works! Really good quality photos as well. A couple were out of focus (I like how you can focus this camera, although clearly I need more practice at this) and some were overexposed (again something you can fiddle with yourself) so a few more tries and I should be getting some great results from this camera!

I chose this particular photo to upload (I like to upload 5 a day and I already had 4 disposables) because of the light leak on the left, I think it adds a lovely finish to the photo :)

Back in the day (before everything went digital) dropping your film off at the developer meant someone else saw your photos before you did. John Borgman

John Borgman (JVBorgman on Flickr) used a disposable camera for these shots, he double exposed the layers (we're assuming the slamming technique?) but he definitely got a better outcome than some of Hannah's slamming fails!

John says in his artist statement on his profile: 

"Amateur photographer trying to squeeze every last drop of potential out of my Sony point-and-shoot until I have the dough for a real rig. Most of my subject matter is Chicago-centric, as I document what I care about most. Some photos err on the side of pure documentation; others are aiming for higher aesthetic heights. My passions tend to dictate my photography: urban enthusiasm; advocate for transportation, proper land usage, and preservation--that kind of thing".

Steph Dalton

These photos are by Steph Dalton, and they're all from manipulated disposable cameras. There are even more wonderful shots to see on her Flickr. We're waiting to hear back from Steph to know her exact techniques, but we'll be sure to update this post once we find out! For now though, Steph's photos are one of the reasons why this blog was set up, it's all about experimenting with disposable cameras and other forms of photography.

Sqworms

Sqworms on Flickr (it's two girls) have some great disposable photographs on their photostream.

The lens of this was coated in hairspray, which is a great idea we'll probably try out!

This one was sealed in two ziplock bags with the flash on.
