Kate Van Genderen

This set is by Kate Van Genderen (somethingdutch on Flickr)

Kate lives in Helena, Montana, she studies Art History, and she has a fascination with patterns, ceilings and laminating things. She usually shoots with her mother's old Olympus OM-G and her f/1.4 lens, or her f/2.8 shift lens, or with an old Minolta Talk-O-Matic that she got at a thrift store for a quarter.

Kate says she can't afford nice equipment, but it's the eye that makes the picture. Although we think she's achieved some remarkable photographs so clearly she doesn't need expensive equipment!

"

Photography is my way of warping the world into something I enjoy- even dirty or dark places can be twisted into other worldly environments that I want to remember. In that way, my pictures are incredibly biased, and somewhat secretive.

Making photographs is also a way for me to have my life feel more compelling- having impromptu photo shoots in front yards or cavorting at the county fair suddenly seem like events that are worth remembering, even if in the regular scope of life they are perfectly mundane". - Kate Van Genderen

Tanya Voltchanskaya

This set is by Tanya Voltchanskaya (tanyavolt on Flickr)

The first two below were shot on Tanya's Zenit 122 with Fuji Superia 400 film.
The third was on a disposable camera.
The last two were both on a Minolta SRT 101, shot on Kodacolour 100 film that expired in 1982.

We love that Tanya uses so many different cameras in her work and that she likes to experiment with expired film and disposables. A beautiful collection.

Karly Brecher

This set is by Karly Brecher (karlyrebecca on Flickr)

Karly shoots with a Canon AE-1 Program. She uses whatever film she can get her hands on, which is usually the cheapest. She took two years of black and white film photography classes at her high school and continued on her own afterwards. Karly says she doesn't consider herself a photographer at all, she just likes taking pictures!

Karly started screwing around with film when her friend Maya dipped her film in water to mess with the colors. Most of the photos featured here were pre-soaked in bleach, salt and she reckons probably some other random stuff she found in her kitchen!

A big fan of "happy accidents", Karly says she wasn't bothered when the photo lab messed up the framing of her shots. We think it adds perfectly to the images, especially with the brilliant pinks and reds.

Alexander Hernandez

This set is by Alexander Hernandez (SomeDumbRobot on Flickr)

These photos were mainly shot using a Canon AE-1. Alexander mostly just takes pictures of the world around him to try to keep a sort of record. He says he used to want to be a writer when he was much younger and always really considered himself an observer. He kept a notebook with just "observations" of the world around him and says in that sense all the pictures he takes are just basically that just in photograph form instead of written.

We think he's captured some wonderful moments in time, the camera helps make the photographs as beautiful as they are but it's the personal meaning behind each one that makes them really special.
